9:30 AM – 3:30 PM lessons. Evening: Group charter bus to off-site dinner — Keg & Low Country Boil. Group photo.

9:30 AM – 3:30 PM final kite session. Evening: Departure dinner together at Watermen's.

FIRST-TIMER FAQ

Do I need prior kiteboarding experience?

Zero experience required. REAL's instructors are world-class and specialize in taking complete beginners to riding independently. The Outer Banks is one of the best learning environments on the planet — flat, warm, shallow water with consistent wind.

What's included in my lesson package?
+

Everything. All kite gear, board, harness, wetsuit, helmet, and impact vest are provided. You'll have a certified instructor 1-on-1 or in a small group, plus a dedicated jet ski for safety and water retrieval. You show up, they handle the rest.

How do I book my lessons?

Each member books and pays directly with REAL Watersports. Visit realwatersports.com/pages/learn-contact and reference code YPO TELLURIDE. Book ASAP — April slots fill 6–12 months out. Semi-private lessons run $2,700 for 3 days; private 1-on-1 is $3,600.

What should I pack / wear?
+

Rash guard or swim shirt (mandatory — no bare skin on the water), board shorts or wetsuit bottoms, polarized sunglasses with a strap, reef-safe sunscreen, and water shoes. Leave the cotton at home. REAL provides all technical gear.

How do I get to Waves, NC?

Fly into Norfolk (ORF) — the recommended gateway, ~2.5 hrs drive. Alternatively, fly private into Manteo (MQI), just 20 minutes away. Rent a car from ORF — there is no Uber or reliable rideshare in the area. REAL can arrange a transfer if needed; contact Jason Forrest at (252) 987-6063.

What are the accommodations like?

You'll stay at Watermen's Retreat — a luxury waterfront resort on-site at REAL. The chapter has reserved four 3-bedroom suites (The Slick, The Planet, The Boiler, The Cove) plus The Hideout cottage for group hangouts. All suites are fully furnished with full kitchens, waterfront views, and resort amenities.

What's the daily schedule?

Arrive Tuesday April 21. Lessons run Wednesday–Friday (April 22–24), full days on the water. Friday evening is the group Après Kite dinner — chapter-covered, no cost to you. Depart Saturday April 25. Evenings are unstructured — explore the Outer Banks, cook at the suite, or decompress at The Hideout.

What does the chapter cover vs. what do I pay?

The chapter covers: accommodations at Watermen's Retreat for all 4 nights, and the Friday Après Kite dinner. You pay: your lessons directly to REAL ($2,700–$3,600), your flights, and your rental car. The $1,000 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot is handled by Jodi Heston.
